Monks were hittin' it all the time back in the day. I wouldn't believe anyone who told me otherwise. That shit definitely happened.

Nowadays people only become monks if they really are into the whole religion and celibacy thing, but back then it was just one of the main occupations, in a land where unemployment meant starving. That means a lot more people who weren't in it for the spiritualism.

Yeah.

Not to mention that the church as a whole was kind of corrupt, in a very medieval way - I mean, this was a period of time where the archetype of the philandering friar was absolutely commonplace, where the prelates of the church were venal in the extreme - it's not at all surprising that there would be homosexuality in a secluded all-male secular environment. Not to say that there wasn't also enormous piety and spirituality. The Middle Ages (late Middle Ages in particular) were just kind of a complex, strange, energetic period of time. Damn do I love reading about them.

I remember it. I have the full run on DVD (and they just loaded a couple of seasons on Netflix).

I can totally see the two of them together in a corporate AU. They'd make a perfect feral yuppie and bitter glass-ceilinged executive. I think their being rigidly disgusted at any suggestion that the things of this world are worth considering next to the rule of the church would translate beautifully into eighteen hour days and amoral business decisions.

Cadfael! \o/ Never heard of? I know a few people who enjoyed the series and love the books. The first four episodes were pretty awesome, then it went downhill, but I bought the DVDs of the first four because they were that good.

As for Prior Robert and Brother Jerome, I think they'd be too busy plotting to take over the Abbey to have sex. But maybe you can find a Brother Cadfael comm and request fic about them?
