Yeah, that's what I was coming to say. I like pairings to make some vague amount of sense, somehow, but I have a really loose definition of that. Shipping only canon seems dull...

For that matter, not all canon ships make sense.

Aha, that too I guess! Usually I'll happily ship canon, though, unless I just have a major issue with how the pairing is portrayed.

Plus, when I said "make a vague amount of sense", I mean that usually what I ship is determined by how much I think a pairing would be...interesting? Or have interesting chemistry? So I'll sometimes ship two characters that never speak to each other in canon just because I think they'd bring out interesting sides of each other, or something.

Yea, what makes a pairing work from person to person can be very different things. Hence, "ship and let ship". (-:
