Looking for new fandoms
I want to get into a new fandom so badly. Is Elementary any good and if yes, what about it do you commend?
And what is Homestuck about and should I get into it?
Any fantasy book series you'd recommend?
Re: Looking for new fandoms
(Anonymous) 2012-10-12 12:15 am (UTC)(link)I imagine you have already read (or not, if it's not your cup of tea) A song of fire and ice series? (Game of Thrones it's the first one)
Re: Looking for new fandoms
the game ends up signaling the end of the world as they know it and sends the kids on the greatest adventure of their lives. they meet a lot of people/creatures along the way, make a few enemies, etc.
Re: Looking for new fandoms
(Anonymous) 2012-10-12 12:26 am (UTC)(link)If you should get into it... if you have the time. Right now the comic is 5379 pages long, and there is a looooot of reading. But it makes fantastic use of the medium.
You really have to remember that for the first year or so, Hussie was using reader commands to write the story, which is kind of why you'll hear people complaining about the first couple acts (though personally, I found them funny).
(As for fantasy books, have you ever read The Circle of Magic books by Tamora Pierce? They're marketed for a younger audience, but they're really good. Her books in general are usually great.)

Re: Looking for new fandoms
A word about Homestuck: the first few acts are made with reader participation. Because of this, the storyline at the beginning is weird and doesn't make any sense. It picks up around Act 4, so get ready for some long reading.
FELLOW GABRIEL FAN
ALSO: I recently got into Homestuck, basically read far enough that I knew who the trolls are, and immediately fell headfirst into fandom.
Most people seem to care more about the trolls than the human kids, and I'll agree, they're more interesting (in my opinion), but it certainly does take a godawful long time to get to their introduction.
If you have issues keeping track of timelines and huge character lists, I would approach Homestuck with caution. (BUT IT IS SO AMAZING ONCE YOU GET INTO IT)
Re: FELLOW GABRIEL FAN
Yeah I've heard from a lot of people that it takes a while to get to the best bits. But it does sound interesting, so hopefully I'll get the opportunity to give it a shot.

Re: FELLOW GABRIEL FAN
I also think the writers didn't exactly think the Gabriel-running-away plot very thoroughly. If he ran away when Michael and Lucifer were fighting, which would be pretty early in time, how did he help out Mary and Jesus? Is he secretly in contact with God? How does a character only in four episodes even leave behind so many questions?!
Re: FELLOW GABRIEL FAN
Tricky Like That: schmoopy schmoop with a side of schmoop. AU in that Gabriel is still called Gabriel, but the story takes place before either of the boys know about his angel-ness.

Poetic Justice: When Gabriel is killed, the world needs a new Trickster, and Dean is the perfect replacement. This one is good, especially the interaction between Dean and Gabriel.

This Gentle Chaos, This Quiet Madness: this one is beautiful, and really appeals to those who are interested in Gabriel's "Loki" persona. So hot. SO. HOT. UNF.

Time for old blue
Here's a video that, berefit of context, offers no spoilers!
It's early. The author gets better..and that doesn't mean this is bad!

The music is amazing throughout. It's a true webcomic. There's flash. THere's interactive games. There's music. Oh lord is there music (check out the soundtracks in the music tab even if you never read a page. You will find something you like, I guarantee it)
People largely summed it up, but here's the old reliable!
Be ready to put aside some time, or take advantage of the "save game" option! It will save your page as long as you have cookies enabled!
