I was looking on behalf of my dad, who pretty much only listens to music while driving -- making vinyls a big no-no, haha.

People have been able to rip vinyl records into all kinds of audio files like mp3 and flac. If you have the records already, maybe this is something you can investigate? Here is the first google link for 'how to rip vinyl' http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2010/12/rip-tunes-vinyl-mp3/

You can also use a phone voice recorder and record the vinyls that way, but the quality is probably guaranteed to be... low.
