Yeah, I hate it when people do that. 'Oh, all your characters are fucked up so you must be fucked up.' 'You write this villain a little too well...' 'Hey, so, uhm, when did you learn how something that dark looks?'

It's as if these people have never heard of having an imagination. Or being able to write something that is not you. They must've done terribly in English class.

This. My mom and I have trouble discussing stories sometimes because she has the particular problem of not being able to appreciate villains as characters. She just can't separate "this person would be great to meet in real life" from "this person has crazy ego issues and shouldn't have that weapon but their liberated quality is so cool to see."
