(Anonymous) 2012-10-13 03:12 am (UTC)(link)In the context of the episode, though, you have to remember that Haru didn't mean it seriously, and he was probably imitating a line from a movie in an attempt to be cool or something. Honestly, shoujo is misogynistic as hell sometimes, but Tonari is one of the few this season where the protag is actually independent and interesting and not relying on her boyfriend-to-be to prop up an uninteresting personality.
I'm not a huge fan of this show, but I'll defend it if only because, even though it's problematic, it's nowhere near PROMOTING RAPE AND MISOGYNY like some anime blogs claim it to be. I'd rather watch this than Suki Iiyano aka "show where protag is hated by everyone and it takes a boy to come along and restore her self worth #214214."

I don't think what he said was right, mind you, but I agree that it's been blown out of proportion by anime blogs.
