WIP horror stories-

You all know the feeling- You've just slogged through a 30 chapter fic to get to the hopefully fulfilling ending, except there is no ending. It's a bloody WIP! What are your WIP horror stories?

I just rediscovered a fic, from back in my early days in fandom, that I had given up on due to slow updates. The author has been writing it for 8 years, it's over 500 000 words long and it's still not even 3/4 of the way finished.

I'm having a bit of a horror story with a WIP I'm writing. I'm on the final chapter of the fic, at a very important part to the plot, and now that I've finally gotten there all the ideas I had for it are just gone. The start of the chapter was great, I know exactly what I want to do at the end, but I'm at this central necessary part and I just don't know what to do anymore. It's driving me nuts.

A while ago I rediscovered a fic from one of my previous fandoms and found that the author was still working it after all these years... except now they're unhappy with their earlier chapters and are going back to re-write them before adding any new content.

...Also, I liked those chapters better the way they were originally.

When I was a young teen, and new to reading fanfic, I learned the hard way that not all fics posted online are finished. I started reading this fairly long Hardy Boys fic, got super into it, and then realized it had no ending. And that the last part had been posted a couple years ago.

I think that was the first long fic I read, too. Not the easiest way to learn that lesson.
