Abed-types aren't generally that hard to pick out of a crowd! And if you approach them, you are almost guaranteed not to be the more socially awkward one in that equation. That's how I've found some of my most fun friend groups: find the only person in the room who looks more awkward and alone than me, and go say hi.

(...just, be careful, because some socially awkward types are less Abed-awesome and more stalker-terrifying, you have to learn to spot the difference pretty quickly.)
