I really do think it was thoughtlessness. You might not agree, but I don't see what would possibly possess him to tell that story about a car crash when he knows full well that it would come across as insensitive. The whole point of that anecdote was to gain sympathy; having the story center around a car crash would do the exact opposite. It's illogical.

I said classy in regards to his physical composure, how he was able to keep a cool head when dealing with immaturity that should not be seen in a Vice President. I think this is the second time I'm saying this, but I wasn't thinking about words spoken when I wrote my original comment. I was just thinking that Biden's behavior reminded me of high school and I give Ryan credit for being able to keep his cool when I know I certainly wouldn't be able to.

And I give Biden credit for not saying "what the fuck is wrong with you?" at that moment. I also really doubt it was sheer thoughtlessness. Do you know how much these guys prepare for these debates? They rarely say anything that's not pre-planned and vetted by their teams, especially not a story that rehearsed.

And frankly, I loved that Biden was calling him on the lies he was openly telling, even if he interrupted to do it. The segment where Ryan kept trying to claim bipartisanship with Democrats and Biden refuted every single name he dropped was very cheering to me after Obama refused to call out Mitt Romney for all his lies.

Then why would he say it? It just completely baffles my mind; there is literally no strategic value (at least that I am aware of) of saying that anecdote if he knew full well it will make him appear insensitive. I find it a lot easier to believe that the Republicans who prepped him did not even think of the connection.

I said this earlier in the thread, but I don't have a problem with the interruptions (I didn't have a problem when Romney did it and I didn't have a problem when Biden did it). My issue was the smirking and the chuckles, which just appeared unprofessional. And I'm glad he called out lies! All politicians should do this (seriously, Obama, wtf?). But Biden wasn't entirely truthful, either: he said the embassy didn't want security, when there is evidence to the contrary.

If no one on the entire team of staffers remembered a famous fact about the guy they were debating, that team needs to be fired. Some people are speculating he did it to throw Biden off his game, and frankly, I'd believe that before I'd believe that just no one in the room remembered it at all.

Seriously. You're a guy who has admitted that you'd punch someone for smirking at you, and you can't fathom why someone would purposely say something that's insensitive?

1. I'm not a guy

2. Not because he "smirked," (you make it sound like it was a one time thing) but because of his constant obnoxious distractions throughout the first half of a long debate, making the whole thing about him when it was "my" turn to explain.

3. There is no way anyone with a brain would think that it would be ok to use that story just to "rattle" someone, knowing full well it would alienate a huge section of people.
