The problem is, someone can be genuinely a horrible person and still love their family. They just don't see anyone outside of their personal circle as people or as worthy of rights or protection. History is full of monstrous and brutal individuals who wrought widespread death and suffering but still loved their children.

I can't get behind the idea of going easy on someone who does awful things that hurt people just because they have kids who might hear what's being said about them. Having children doesn't render you immune to public criticism, even if that criticism is harsh or impolite, and especially if it's warranted by your actions.
