I think OP meant to say that if you're in a music fandom, support the bands you like financially. In some music fandoms (like, say, any band that doesn't tour regularly in the US/wherever you live) buying the album is actually the most reasonable and meaningful support that you can give.

If that's not the case for your band and/or fandom, that's awesome. But I don't think the OP really meant "BUY THE ALBUM OR YOU ARE A HORRIBLE FAN" so much as "Maybe it would be a good idea to actually support the creative endeavors that fuel your fandom. Just maybe."

There's a lot of magical thinking that goes on in fandom justifying all manner of shenanigans (i.e. piracy, creepy fan entitlement wrt artists/actors, willful breaking of the fourth wall) in the name of "It's okay because we love it!" that is just... Not really a thing.
