But they can CHANGE. That's what I don't understand. Don't wear a skimpy costume if you aren't going to look the part! Nobody is telling you to not have fun, they're just asking that you look accurate.

Without extensive plastic surgery, no one is going to look exactly like the character. Are you one of the ones who bitches because someone bought a wig half a shade off from the canon haircolor, too?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-15 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Lol this for real. Especially since most anime characters have waists smaller than their heads.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-15 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
My head is only 2 inches smaller than my waist irl.

This (and pretty much every other "No person could ever actually look like that!" comment posted on the internet about Lara Croft/J-Random Cartoon Character) is a major contributing factor to my somewhat crippling insecurity in geeky spaces.

Pics or it didn't happen. No corsets involved either.

The only photoshop was to remove the under-the-belly-button squidge, and to recolor. My measurements at the time were something like 37-24-41 (they're not that much different now, some 8 years later. I just don't have any recent art nudes of myself laying around.) and my head is 22" around because I have a bizarre and slightly deformed skull. It sticks out in the back and has been referred to by various unhelpful friends as "the bone beanie," and is one of the reasons I now have long hair.

I also have somewhere between a 32F and a 30G bra size, because clearly my genetic code didn't check in with reality before putting me together.

DA. A 24 inch waist is actually not that out of the norm, considering it's attainable and is a size 0 on the an average size chart. (That's actually my waist size too, but with 42-24-40 measurements.) I think anon above might be thinking about anime girl's waists that would clearly be around 13 inches given the drastic size difference between their heads and waists. Which would only be attainable through compressing your rib cage.

*hi5!* Yeah, it's mostly just that I have a freakishly big head that the comment was somewhat upsetting, I think. I've gotten so much snark from people who aren't willing to buy that I "really" belong in geeky circles when they meet me in person rather than on the web that I'm just way oversensitive about it.

(I have "The Enemy's Gate Is Down" tattooed on my arm and the fucking one ring script inked in red on my rib cage, ffs. Socially insecure anon is insecure.)

I'm sorry, but HOW is the costume pictured in that secret "skimpy"? It looks like it's covering 90% of her body to me. :|a Not all "fat" cosplayers wear skimpy outfits, and STILL get teased and name-called, even when they're wearing something that flatters them.

No cosplay is ever going to be completely accurate when it comes to anime/cartoon/manga/comic/video game characters because 99% of the time they're drawn wildly out of proportion with hair that defies gravity and clothes that would never be practical in a million years. So claiming you're looking for "accuracy" in cosplay is somewhat ridiculous in itself, but trying to insinuate that a person needs to be close to those incredibly unrealistic body proportions most of those characters have for you to show them some basic human respect is just plain awful.

No one should have to change their entire body just to make some stranger on the internet more comfotable looking at them. If you don't like it, scroll past it or hit the back key. I'm sure there are things about you that aren't perfect, either. I mean, we can already tell your attitude towards fat people is already pretty damn shitty.

Comments like this make me want to cosplay as Massha from Aspirin's Myth Adventure series. :D
