It is. My high school show choir only did covers of songs. And we sold CDs of our performances to cover the costs that naturally come with the performing arts. (We did have to write a song about halfway through the year just to prove we knew music theory, but that was done with full knowledge that we wouldn't perform them, because they were almost as bad as Glee's characterization.)
