Did anyone else read this with a SoCal accent running in their heads? It was the first sentence that triggered it.

Honestly it sounded like RDJ's Tony Stark voice to me. I'm thinking OP typed it through his lens, and so got used to writing his speech quirks in the fic, so it comes out when they're even writing about him.

But that's just my thoughts.

Yes. It was the paused "like" that threw me.

Once I was at a checkout with my sister. In front of us was a young woman talking on the phone. Every other word was, "like." As in, "Like I told him to like go to the store like now because like I needed it." I started to counting the likes, even gesturing to my sister that I was doing so. She gave me a dirty look. But after thirty seconds of hearing the girl's the conversation, she started counting them as well. What started as something funny quickly turned into something amazing. I had and have never heard anyone fit in so many intentional "likes" in one conversation.

An unbelievable explanation is better than no explanation at all. There's nothing sadder than an abandoned fic or fill on a kink meme, with no idea of what happened to the author.

Yeah, I sometimes start worrying that they died or they've been kidnapped or they're on the run from the FBI or something, because my brain is insane.

oh my god, I do the same thing. I always wonder what the hell happened to them. I'd rather get a horrible explanation that is just bad and more like an excuse than nothing at all.

I always worry that they've been murdered or been in a car accident. I don't even know why my mind goes STRAIGHT there.

Shit happens. Anybody who doesn't believe that needs a reality check. But if you don't want to go into details, then don't. Just say something like, "I know this took a pretty abrupt left turn. I was going through some serious shit. I'm past that stuff now, but I'm never going to finish because I don't want to bring up it all up again."

People who were left hanging would probably appreciate it, anyway.

^ this. You don't have to give details if you don't want to go into it. I think most people have gone through a "serious shit" period in their life and would be sympathetic even to a vague statement.

Secondly, this could apply to a few unfinished WIPs I've been waiting for endings to - I'd rather know if it was yours nd I'd be happy to know of it being unfinished for such a good reason.
