lol what. why?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-16 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Why, I think it's pretty clear. It's just as silly as when I hear my friends talking about themselves in the wrong gender (though, granted, I sometimes talk about myself in the third person masculine, being a girl, but it's a childhood habit and I never do it entirely seriously).

But they aren't singing about themselves. They are singing someone else's song. Like if I sing, "Fell in love with girl." I am not singing how I fell in love with girl. I am singing how Jack White fell in love with girl.

Aye, it actually depends. If it's clear from the song that they sing about someone else, it's OK. And if it's not then I feel as if they're singing about themselves.

My perceiving of music is probably childish a bit.

I...don't really think that's how people who cover songs look at it. Like if the song says the word I anywhere in it, they're not talking about the person who originally wrote the song. They're probably singing it because they also feel that way.

This.

This was one of the worst examples of changing gender in a song to fit a cover artist. Joss Stone covered "Fell in love with a girl" and changed it to "Fell in love with a boy," and not only did it not have the same feel of the original song, it completely fucked the rhyme scheme.

So...you think it's silly, but you do it yourself? I...don't really get what your issue is with how people decide to gender themselves. Maybe it's not misgendering, has that ever occurred to you?

Gender =/= sex

(Anonymous) 2012-10-16 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoa, whoa, I didn't mean that at all. It's just that misgendered lyrics (unless they consider this gender as theirs) make me laugh. I cannot listen to those quite seriously.
