Oh, man I'm right there with you. Thank goodness. (But IMHO it's positively shameful that the practice continued well into the 20th century)

It freaked me out as an American when my mom pointed out that her grandma -- the only wholly Chinese person in my family tree in quite a few generations -- had her feet bound. I had heard of it before, but really thought it had died out way before then (this would be late 19th century). I've also always wondered what her husband, who was Spanish, thought of the practice. But she didn't stay in China and afaik didn't pass on anything besides knowledge of the practice on to the next generation.
