Personally I would not consider the physical punishment I got as beatings :/ I also feel that the times it happened were effective when they were used. I disagree with using it as the main form of punishment though.

Punishment for myself as a child ranged from being hit with any hard object lying around. A hairbrush, a broom, a boot, hands, etc. I was slapped across the face/hands/back. I also had severe 'time outs' from my older sister as a young child. And when I say 'severe' I was not allowed to leave the corner even though I was sick and needed to throw up. (I threw up all over her computer/floor because of it)

I was five when I acted out when my mother was cleaning. She threw a broken umbrella at me that lodged into my arm.

I don't believe there really is a line bewtween 'abuse' and 'physical punishment'. Slapping a child's hand away from fire or something like that is not the same as hitting a child for acting out/misbehaving. I turned out okay I suppose, but it was not in part to punishment. It's barbaric in my opinion. :/

Dude, you were abused not physically punished. There is no such thing as punishment from thrown broken umbrellas. Like, fuck, your mom threw things at you and didn't allow you to catch them or duck? That's fucking abuse.

Yeah...sorry but that's abuse. My punishments were spankings after I did something terrible. They weren't very hard and didn't last long at all. Our situations are completely different.
