For the ones I am on, which are not just regular birth control pills (Yaz works as birth control, but is also for women with PMDD) 3 months can run about $60-$80 depending on the retailer where you buy it. (This is in the USA, btw) I believe that other birth control brands have similar prices.

Also, Yaz is available in generic, which is the exact same medicine just not brand name, which means you can get it for maybe ~$10 cheaper. Most doctors prescribe 3 months at a time, but you can ask for a monthly scrip with authorized refills so you pay more often, but less at a time.

If you are looking specifically to take the pill continuously, you need to see an OB/GYN, not just a regular doctor. That can be QUITE expensive, but not outrageous as long as you don't get any tests done.

Thank you. I forgot to specify I am in the US. And by "doctor" I meant ob/gyn. I've never been to one but the periods and moods have gotten so it's really negatively impacting my life so I may have to make the emotional and financial sacrifice for greater well being. Thanks again for the info, I'm off to do some more research and see if this is a possibility.

Since you don't have insurance, I'm going to ask if you are young enough that your parents might be able to help? Because I get my meds 1) way cheap because my great-uncle owns a pharmacy, and 2) my mother pays for them because I am on her insurance and she cares greatly about my psychological health. And I don't know what I would do without her. Probably have another full break with reality and end up homeless again.

Obviously I don't know everything about your situation, and I know that asking for help is humbling, but when it comes to your health I think it would be preferable to have a wounded ego and a little more money for food and such. (Again, making no judgments or comments about you personally, since I know nothing about you :D)

Yeah no, I'm an adult without insurance. I've tried applying for state aid a couple of times but apparently I don't qualify. Which, honestly not sure who qualifies as I make not enough to live on (currently crashing with generous friends). I wish I had people I could ask for help but my parents don't have any money and my friends are already helping out in any way they can by letting me live with them.

Thanks again for the kind comments though! Didn't come across as judging at all. :) I'll keep researching my options.

If there's a Planned Parenthood nearby, they will help you with choosing a birth control and finding the right option for you, along with everything that comes with it (including physical exams and the like). They're a big help for low-income women.
