Awhile back I posted a comment about the horror of thesis writing, and just thought I would let you guys know that I completed my first draft this past weekend. It's probably horrible and such, but at least its done with for now.

So...keeeep working on it. Or if you want, complain. Cause I will always be willing to complain about thesis writing and shitty advisers

Congratulations! Is there a hard due date? How long is it?

Nah, I actually finished all of my classwork about a year ago, so I have been writing it without going to school. It should be done so that my graduation date in January 2013 - but I first have to wait for my adviser to tell me that I am ready to defend. And I am not sure if I will have to write another draft, just make changes, or he will say I am ready to defend by the end of this first proof (that last one is probably not going to happen).

But at the moment, without a bibliography its 94 pages and like 450 footnotes. It's ridiculous and I both love and hate it?! I'm like a proud mother who technically hates her child, but really wants to talk about how awesome he is.

I'm one of the other thesis writers out there. I'm actually working on my second draft now, believe it not.

To all of you dissertation/thesis-writing folks: if we can do it, surely you can, too!

I was telling my friend, when I was filling out the acknowledgement section - but I got weirdly emotional about finishing the first draft. I like went through the different stages of grief. (I was also drinking).

Ah! Second drafts I bet are better than firsts! Though I hate proofing, so the second will probably be my bane. Plus there are a few things that have come out in the first two chapters that I'm like 'That's a good point and all, but I reallllly don't feel up to fixing that shit."

I wish I were that far. I realized today that I may be running into some problems with the results of my experiments where I wasn't expecting any. Do not want.

Oh man. As someone who for a year thought she was going to write about something, and then spent a year realizing nothing she was doing was original research and had to basically reconfigure parts of her thesis - I think I know exactly how you feel. I spent a month trying to decide whether I should just switch topics or push forward.

(Of course my asshold adviser gave me the advice of 'just finis the draft and send it to me' when I asked him for advice. Want to know a large reason why it took me so long to complete this bitch. Ugh /end rant)

I hope your experiments and your adviser is way better than mine. *HUGS* You can do it!

Thanks bb! Hopefully it will be soonish. Our defenses (is that a word) actually aren't too bad. But I still want it done, cause that means getting it bound and never having to think about it again. (Unless I look into getting it published)
