"the fandom is the chief reason I can't fucking stand this series"

THIS. SO. MUCH.

I tried One Piece, discovered it isn't my cup of tea and that should have been the end of it.
But I made the mistake of saying that and then several fandom friends and people I didn't even know decided to try to convince me to give it another chance because it's sooo good and I would like it if I keep reading it, etc.

It was a stressful experience TBH and made me hate One Piece in a way I didn't before.

Same here, except I actually read the first two or three volumes before I got bored with it. My friends acted like it was a personal betrayal that I'd put it down, and tried their damnedest to get me back into it. Drove me crazy enough that I broke off the friendship because we could not have a single conversation that didn't revolve around how much I needed to get back into One Piece.
