I think that if the OP has a strong negative reaction to a relatively handsome man's asymmetric jaw, he or she is going to have negative reactions to people with asymmetrical features in general. Unfortunately, attitudes like that rarely stay secrets, even if the viewer thinks that he or she is doing a good job of hiding them.

What can realistically be done about that, though? If a person finds something to be unattractive, then there's not much that can be done to change that. And, really, that's something that a person shouldn't have to change.

There's nothing wrong with thinking that someone is ugly. There is, however, something wrong with saying such to someone's face, or with treating someone poorly as a result.

That's true (OC here).

Speaking as someone with a very asymmetrical face (as in, someone who's literally disfigured), I really wish that other people would make the effort to step over their instincts and ignore people with asymmetries. It's a pipe dream, but I can still hope, right?

It's easy to say, "I think that person is ugly, but it's okay since I'd never let them know by treating them badly!" It's the unconscious actions, though, that bother me -- people staring, moving away on the bus or metro, trying to avoid touching me, and so on. They're definitely not intentionally treating me poorly, but it's hard for them to hide it.

christ, I'm just not interested in fucking him.

I'm not treating anyone like Quasimodo.

That's...fucked up. Commenter, if I ever saw you in person, I would smile at you and treat you just like any other person. I probably wouldn't find you attractive, but I'd at least be nice. What the hell is wrong with people?
