This is my life.

Reading or writing fic is a requirement? News to me.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-19 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Aparently here and in livejournal, if you dont care abou fanfics you are stupid and iliterated. This is why people here hate tumblr and deviantart. They dont understand visual arts.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-19 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, no. I dislike Tumblr because it doesn't easily allow for conversation or anything in-depth. I rarely read fanfic for most of my fandoms. I do, however, make graphics, read/write meta, squee about episodes, etc. And while I use Tumblr, and enjoy seeing some of the interesting things on there, it makes me very sad that the quick "toss things out there" that is Tumblr is starting to replace actual back and forth on LJ and DW.

But to each his/her own.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-19 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
This. I realize not being into fanfic doesn't mean you're not really in the fandom.

Of course, LJ sucks for quality discussion these days too. There's never any comments in the "discussion posts".

because everyone is on tumblr sucking each others dick about how GR8 IT IS OMG...

...and not talking to each other.

of course, they can't talk with all the dick they're sucking...

It's possible to prefer written over visual arts without being judgmental about it. I "understand" visual arts just fine, but since I'm not a visual artist, my ability to participate in that way is limited.

I don't "hate" Tumblr or Deviantart, but I think they're poor venues for posting written work and meta, and aren't the best places for discussion (at least, Tumblr isn't. I'm not on Deviantart). But my main issue with Tumblr is the lack of in-depth discussion and the difficulty in joining into discussions, not the lack of fic. I have other sources for fic.

Yet a image can speak more than words.

Okay? What's your point? I appreciate art, but I'm still not an artist, and I still communicate more naturally through words. That has nothing to do with the value of either.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-20 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
but it doesn't carry on a conversation

however, I realize this is too complicated for you to understand. you'd rather squeal like a 12 year old over pics.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-19 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
That's pretty much how I feel lately too.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-19 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah...this is me, too.

How about a compromise? Join the real life meetups or fanclubs of your fandoms (if you live in a place that has them).

(Anonymous) 2012-10-19 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, the between-fandoms feeling, I hate it. But you know what? Something gets you eventually. It always does.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-19 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Loneliness is one of the most awful feelings. :(
Maybe you could try to make some real-life friends? Join some kind of club or something outside of work/school? Maybe even volunteer work. At least so that you're out there and talking to people.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-19 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
This is basically me, minus the "losing interest in fandom" part.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-19 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Awwww, poor little cardboard robot creature...

(I keep getting distracted from the text by its adorable sadness)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-19 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
I feel you anon. I used to be huge obsessed with a single fandom for the last 10 years, and now I'm barely interested in fic anymore. I still draw fanart, and enjoy that, but it's not the same.

For now I'm just keeping up with new anime/manga series and some other video games. I don't know why none of them can hit my obsess button like my 10 yr Fandom one though :(
