Quite frankly I was disappointed with Two-face in that movie. The Harvey Dent part was fine... but I didn't buy his change of character. You don't pull guns on people and kidnap Gordon's kid because you're face got burned. Not unless you had underlying issues to begin with, which they never showed.

And obviously I hated that lady love getting blown up was his motivation. It was a sore spot for Batman's character too.

To be fair, there was a warning sign or two - I saw the movie only once a while ago, but didn't he go as far as kidnapping (well, something like that) a guy and threaten him with a gun to make him speak? That definitely made it look like something wasn't quite right before the incident.

Also, there is the fact both him and what's-her-name were kidnapped (and she died) because of corrupt police force, after fighting crime with all he had. That makes you rethink the way justice is supposed to work, I guess - especially when the woman you want to marry dies because of it and you lose half of your face.

Honestly, I wish they hadn't felt the need to wrap up the Harvey Dent/Two-Face plot in one movie. It's a character arc that suffers from being too compressed--that kind of decent into madness needs time for maximum impact.

Even the animated series knew that. I would have loved it if they'd introduced Harvey in the first film, had his transformation in the second, and then wrapped it up in the third.

I always read that as him simply getting very frightened, it never felt to me like that was the act of someone who'll snap soon, but someone who doesn't know what to do and feels powerless. It just didn't feel threatening, like you'd expect if the movie tried to tell you "Watch out for this guy!".

Come to think of it, I agree. The movie did try to hint at a darker side, like when he threatened that schizophrenic guy with a gun. And I guess you could read things into his line about "making your own luck."

Yep, Rachel being Fridged was not cool. I love Christopher Nolan's work, except for his sexism.

I think the point was that Harvey was actually an incredibly vain, self-serving person who hid it well behind a facade of charm and crusading for justice. When things got tough, he started pulling guns on people because he was just so self-centered and entitled that he thinks he has the right to go as extreme as he wants.

...Of course, I had to read a movie critic's review to lean that. You can see it in a few places, though, like when he lets Gordon into his office but doesn't offer him a chair, and Gordon - after a second of standing there awkwardly - has to pull one over to Harvey's desk himself.
