Yup! Exactly that. While snarking and being generally horrible. Basically instead of getting ahold of his anger and emotions, Shattered Glass Drift said "frag it" and let go of them.

He's cruel and sadistic and would fit in quite well with the IDW DJD.

Y'know, I'm sure I'm supposed to be interested in the DJD, but I never felt particularly interested in MTMTE. I can't take the acid-trip colors seriously, I don't like Rodimus at all, and the few quotes I've seen from the DJD seem pretty lackluster to me. I don't know. I feel like I should want to read it, but I can't seem to un-meh myself.

Yeah. It just hurts my head. I mean if there was some reason for it, like "this is set in the '70s," maybe I'd go for it. But as is I'm just like "lemme get this straight you want me to read (which necessarily means LOOK AT) your comic, and to entice me to do so you make it look like the ugliest crayons in the box threw up. NYYYYYYYYYYYOHKAY."

You seriously can't see why people would love this (http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2012/199/5/7/tf_mtmte_10_cover_colors_by_markerguru-d57p9cp.jpg)?

The details of the reflection. Iacon looking like slightly alien. Light that looks like light.

I mean, people are allowed to disagree, but I find both the coloring and pencils on that fantastic.

I withhold judgement on the DJD until they are written a bit more. We've seen them snarking and gleefully torturing for a dozen pages. Not really enough time to form an opinion. "Lackluster" probably isn't quite the word I'd apply, though. They are literally instruments of torture, their very bodies designed to cause severe pain and suffering to their targets, in the most brutal ways possible.

Roberts is not trying to make Rodimus likable. He's reckless and unthinking and took an action in MTMTE that made me sick to my stomach, but not in a "YOU SUCK AS A WRITER!" way as in an "...ohgodohfuck *clingtotheamazingmetalpersons*" way.

As for colors, I'm totally in love with Milne's artwork, so I can't really offer an opinion there other than "I disagree" :D

Okay, but the thing is, I can't bring myself to have any comment to that besides "meh." I don't even know WHY, really. It's not like I don't like baddie sadists. But for some reason I just don't find myself feeling it. Maybe it's the horrible art (I'd say "why Milne why," but I'd guess someone else colors it), maybe it's the excerpts/panels I've seen being written poorly so I'm not engaged -- I don't know.

I think we shall just have to agree to disagree, and I mean that in a completely amiable way. I like the pencils and the colors, including the fact that I can tell any of the bots in a second. Indeed, I like the colors FAR better than the ones in Robots in Disguise.

And, in my opinion, the writing has been pretty amazing straight through, with only a few WTH moments, and after putting up with Mike "Nobody can understand Cybertronians because they're not humans so I'm going to focus on Spike and make him both a Gary Stu and a horrible human being" Costa for so goddamn long I'm downright thrilled to see someone writing the characters thinking in ways that are both very human AND somewhat alien. Hell, Costa made me hate Optimus Prime. That takes talent of a very special and unpleasant kind. Roberts is making me stop hating most of the bots I started hating and gotten me interested in a whole bunch of new ones. Although he recently did something with Ratchet that I'm not particularly thrilled about...

Oh, I'm not offended at all, and I hope it's clear that I'm not saying it's bad or anything. I don't know. I haven't read it. I just haven't found myself interested at all in the excerpts, summaries, descriptions, or the fansquee -- I see any of the above and I usually scratch my head. I don't know if I'm finding it uninteresting because it's really something you've gotta be following to get, or if I really wouldn't like it, or what. I just don't find myself feeling engaged. I may pick it up and completely adore it. I've definitely had totally wrong first impressions before. :-)

I suspect, though, that even were I to study it all very closely, I'd find I'm just not a fan of IDW's current direction in... anything, really. I loved some of their stuff, but really found myself less than intrigued by most of it post-AHM. I've read some, and I didn't dislike it, but... I don't know. The idea of it just doesn't grab me any more.

Like -- I didn't really have time to get into whatever it was called, the ongoing. At first I felt sad about this and really wanted to know what happened next and felt all fuck I'm behiiiiind! etc. But then I started hearing stuff like "Megatron was a nonviolent protester who wrote essays on social change before he went violent" and -- I just went wow, really? And wasn't so sure if I wanted to read that.

Again, not to say that it's BAD. It may be great. I don't know. And I've liked the excerpts I've seen from that much more than I've liked the excerpts I've seen from MTMTE. But -- what I loved most about Megatron: Origin was something the scriptwriter said in an interview, which was something like "This is a guy who wasn't always Epic Villain, but he always had the potential. He finds himself doing violent things -- and he finds himself realizing --" mm. I don't remember the exact wording. But it wasn't just "that he likes it," it was more -- like that way of behaving was not only productive for him but natural to him. That he took to it, that he discovered that was the kind of guy he was. So even though he had doubt at first, it was his Good Guy impulses that weren't who he really was, and the whole thing was how he came into his own as a villain, rather than a fall from grace so much.

So the whole... change in revolutionary style? It may be awesomemazing, but it's not how I want to see the character. I want to see him as what I THOUGHT he was in M:O, as I understood it: someone who had a regular, boring life because he hadn't discovered who he was -- and when he did, who he was was bad rather than good.

And yeah, that's not MTMTE. I'm just citing that to say I'm really not feeling IDW in general, when I really used to care.
