Am I the only one here that actually thouht it wasn't so good? I had only an ashamed emotional response the entire time because I thought she was a brat and wanted her to get eaten by the pale man.
Nonetheless, that theory is totally fine. I thought it that way too. But other interpretations can work as well.

No, me too. I found it rather dull and the over-the-top violence only made me roll my eyes and wonder why this gore-fetish movie with an annoying child lead was so popular.

I'm with you. It was misbilled, poorly mashed together, and the violence was horribly gratuitous. I was so fucking excited for this film, I'd been waiting for months to get to it and when I finally did...

Man, what a fucking let down.

Honestly, Devil's Backbone handled the themeatic elements of this film much better with less flashy effects. I'm convinced that people who jizz over this film are doing it because of the visual storytelling (which is incredible) as opposed to the shoddy, cobbled together "War is hell at home and abroad, also facisim is hell and oh look at this clumsily tacked on symbolism to justify my fantastic effects budget!!" plot that was utter shite.
