Oh wow, someone who knows and cares about the KOF: KYO side of the King of Fighters fandom. I'm impressed.

As for the content of the secret? Yuki was bland, yeah, but all the bashing dedicated to such an... inoffensive, girl-next-door chara was ridiculous. Specially coming from the butthurt yaoi fangirls who scream bloody murder when a slashable guy turns out to have a girlfriend in canon.

It's kinda a cultural thing. Japan's culture is more geared towards the concept of "you can have cool women in the show, but at the end of it all, the hero should settle down with the sweet and demure one who doesn't challenge him and will be happy to stay at home and make bento lunch." Because regardless of everything else in the story, the status quo of propriety must triumph in the end - kinda like how Hitchcock movies had to end with the bad guys not getting away with it.

Western culture, on the other hand, doesn't feel the same urge to resolve the stories this way, and so doesn't understand why the hero is choosing what is often the least interesting and badass female character.
