How did he get together with Janeway in this book, then? I shipped Janeway/Chakotay, but I liked Seven and wouldn't want to see her killed off.

The book appears to take place when they're still in the Delta Quadrant, so now I'm just really confused.

Starfleet finds a way to visit the DQ again with a fleet, I only loosely followed the other books (as in, I read summaries because by the time I got around to it, they'd killed Janeway and I wasn't about to read them...but now they brought her back).

Haven't read this book yet, but in the first books following the series Seven and Chakotay broke up almost as soon as they got back to Earth. She got a job Earthside and he became captain of Voyager and they acknowledged that while they may have stayed together if they'd stayed on Voyager in the Delta Quadrant, in their current life/timeline they weren't meant to be.

I'm confused, I thought at the end of the show they mentioned that Seven and Chakotey got married? To be honest I found Seven really annoying, so it doesn't bother me at all, but I'm confused by this thread...Are the books different canon to the show?

The finale opens in the future with Voyager returned home and mentions that they did get married and then one of them died - can't even remember which it's been so long. (And Tuvok got some Vulcan disease that made him lose control of his emotions) But then Janeway went into the past (the present time line of the show) and got Voyager home earlier - before Seven and Chakotay got married - and changed the timeline. So everything from then on - including the books (which are canon I think) is different from that future.

AYRT, thankyou, it's been so long that I totally forgot that! I just remembered the beginning of the episode no doubt. I do remember one of them dying, and really can't remember which one either. I had loved Voyager at first, but got bored when it became all about Seven. Plus I didn't really like the direction that Chakotey's character went, but I think it's the problem with a second in those sorts of shows, look at Will Riker, same sort of problem, they are kind of aimless. Unlike your Data/Spock character.
