I know this probably sounds like I am taking things too seriously, but I am like so over movies with villainous cats and heroic dogs.

I get it, because as a kid I hated anything that made cats out to be villains because I loved my cats. Movie makers need to realize there are kids who aren't going to like it.

I can sort of understand it in movies where the protagonists are like... mice?

But dogs are predators too!

(And most cats and dogs get along anyway.)

What really never made sense to me is when dogs and cats are enemies, but dogs and mice are friends.

Last mouse in this house got totally double-teamed.

I've been over this trope since I was a very young child.
Even to the point where it would get upsetting.

Mainstream media, y u haet my favorite animal so much?

I don't think I noticed it as much when I was a kid. When I was very little I loved cats, but then once I started to get to the age that I actually... remembered a lot of things I developed into more of a dog person, and now I'm a cat owner/lover as an adult (I still love dogs, they're just not the right pet for me). BUT I BET IT WOULD BE REALLY ANNOYING AS A KID, definitely.

Nope, I agree. Even when they aren't villains they tend to be jerks. I would love one movie where mice/rats are portrayed as the disgusting, dangerous vermin they are, and cats are the heroes.

I think one of the things I hate the most was that one Tom & Jerry cartoon where Tom was supposed to be guarding a kings food from the mice or something, and he got executed at the end for trying to do his job. Fuck that cartoon.

Gasp. I don't want that either though! I love rodents just as much as I love cats (my two favorite pets, such is life).

As a random note I really appreciated Ratatouille for having a rat as the hero without ever bringing cats into the picture (in fact that only animal we see him freak out over is a dog).

Man I just hated Tom and Jerry all over the place. FOR SO MANY REASONS.

For me there is huge difference between a pet rodent, and a wild rodent. I've had pet mice, and I loved them dearly, but a wild rodent living in my house is something I honestly don't handle well. It's only been made worse by only recently getting out of a situation where rodents were a very big problem.

I really didn't like a lot of cartoons like T&J and Looney Toons because of how cats got treated.

There surely is a difference between pets and wild rodents, but wild rodents are just trying to survive, so I don't particularly enjoy seeing them villainized in films either. This is not to say that I would want to live with a bunch of wild rodents in my house though, as that's not sanitary.

In any case, rats especially do get a HORRIBLE wrap from the entertainment industry even in situations where they aren't vermin, and it's sad because they are great pets. I've worked at multiple pet stores, and the things people will say when they see rats is just... really disheartening.

Mice tend to get off the hook most of the time though, for some reason.

I was never a huge fan of slapstick that harmed animals period, so yeah. BUT CATS VS. DOGS. It annoys me so much because it's always dogs.

In Looney Tunes' favour, they did have Marc Antony and Pussyfoot? I will never get over that giant bulldog fawning over that tiny, tiny trouble-prone kitty. Soooo cute.
