Imagine Dragons. Strike one. Stupid fantasy band name.

Strike two. I think their single 'It's Time' is everything I should hate- a cacophony of insipid noodling, overwrought vocals and faux-folksly bullshit.

But, it grew on me. And, then, I listen to the Continued Silence LP and liked it, damn it. I still don't know why, but I like it.

Nickelback. :) No explanation needed, I think, and really, I've heard enough of the hate to understand where it's coming from at this point.

I still find their songs catchy.

Music is the one area where I can genuinely say my taste is eclectic, so that's my response if anyone questions me.

Seconding Nickelback, and also Avril Lavigne, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, all of those kind of tweenybopper emo-rock bands that I should really, as a grown woman, have 'grown out of' or whatever. I still like them though, no shame here. The only thing I'm TRULY ashamed to admit to listening to is Lindsay Lohan's album. (What? It's catchy stupid pop! And it sucks less than a lot of those Disney channel popstars.)

And Blue Stahli. Everything I know about his fanbase makes me feel like I'm listening to douchebag music. (I'll admit, I don't know MUCH, but what little I do know has scared me off of ever admitting I like his music.)

Black Eyed Peas. I always felt embarrassed for liking them even before I knew why. After watching Todd in the Shadows' I'mma be video, I ended up liking that song too despite hating it before. It's fun music. :C

Katy Perry. Her songs are just so catchy. I can't help myself.

Not a band, per se, but any cover song that I prefer over the original. I'm sorry! Either I heard it first and it's the version I know best, or I legitimately think it's superior to the original, or I didn't even know it WAS a cover, stop judging me!

Songs from musicals in general...and the occasional Glee cover, though I'll never admit to that one unanon!

Cher Lloyd

[personal profile] silverau 2012-10-21 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
I don't tend to get into bands as a whole, but when it comes to individual songs I am ashamed of liking, I have many. The first one that comes to mind is "Want U Back" by Cher Lloyd is. The lyrics make me wanna slap the entitled, arrogant, bratty narrator in the face, but the song itself is so... catchy.

Most everything I listen to? Aside from what I've already replied to...

Taylor Swift, Kelly Clarkson, Dashboard Confessional, Muse, Spice Girls, and a ton of J-Pop and Vocaloid stuff.

Oh, and I genuinely like Call Me Maybe.

Danko Jones. Not because of quality, I think he's actually excellent. Because I once looked at his website and saw a page defending misogynistic stuff in his songs and felt kind of sick.

Nickelback, Eminem, Evanescence, the Spice Girls, Abba. The list goes on and on, but I don't care.

Britney Spears. Without even realizing I was doing it, I somehow collected a sizable number of her songs that I love. "Inside Out" is the best.

Cradle of Filth.

I'm not actually ashamed of liking them at all, but any time I admit it to others I feel like I'm going to be judged six ways from Sunday.

I love it, though. I love sprawling concept albums, I love metal, I love dark fantasy, I love clever wordplay, I love overly pretentious sturm und drang. There is not a thing about it that is not something I would like.

That I used to like at some point? Evanescence, just like the secret. Paramore. Korn (who apparently has a song with Skrillex now. WTF.) Limp Bizkit. Random rap and R&B. Probably most of it, actually. Avril Lavigne.

That I still like? Somewhat? ...probably Lady Gaga. I have a couple of Katy Perry songs too.

Sarah Brightman. Yes, I know, and I love her anyway. Also, I like Disney soundtracks, Christina Aguilera and I love me some Lady Gaga.

Lana Del Rey... She really can't sing well but I don't even know, there's something about her music I can't stop listening to.
