Just thirding that fandom interest isn't always a consistent thing. There are some periods where it's what I spend the majority of my free time doing, and some where I don't so much as look at fic for weeks.

To add to that, I think that a "fact of life" is that we sometimes associate our former or fleeting interests with having been younger when really, we just found new interests or new people who introduced us to different things. Also, interests can reinvent themselves in different ways. I know someone who used to be a complete Granola Girl, and she's not really anymore... but she does still have a few organizations she supports that show she hasn't completely shed the Granola Girl. She just realized she kind of likes meat and can't really spend all day damning The Man.
