honestly I had no idea until recently that Thor is kind of Avengers fandom's unfavourite :( I love him as a character even without Loki attached so that makes me really sad. I wonder why he isn't interesting to so many people?

And anyway if they're just going to stick him with someone (and they're morally opposed to it being Loki for whatever reason) there's always Sif! Anyone but Jane D:

I *think* it's because

1. he has hints of being kind of a jock -- very popular among his friends, very easy-going and friendly and extroverted and social, not a lot of inner turmoil that doesn't have to do with Loki, not very intellectual and not at all isolated. This is the polar opposite of a good section of fans, who are often nerds and even more often introverts who spend a lot of time alone in fandom comms on the internet rather than out doing stuff with their RL friends.

2. unlike fans of Steve or Tony, he didn't have a built-in fandom before The Avengers, because he didn't have a big contingent of comics!shippers and therefore, fanfiction about him, the way Steve and Tony did, and the Thor movie fandom was drowned by Loki fans who ignored him. Nor did he make a unique splash the way Bruce did, nor is he enough of a blank slate to speculate about, the way Natasha and Clint are.

Just my theories, though, I could be totally off-base.

yeah, those are probably totally right... I also wonder if some of those Loki fans don't dislike Thor simply for being Loki's enemy.
It's sad :( I love Thor. I mean yes I am a Loki stan, but without Thor Loki is kind of boring.

That all makes a lot of sense, especially the first point.

I love him tooooooo! Favorite movie!verse Avenger, hands down. I think one of the reasons that I get a little confused when people say that there is a lack of Thor fic is because I read so much Thor/Loki that my perception on that front is skewed, which makes me sad because Thor is awesome and needs more love. I don't actually understand how someone cannot love him.

Yeah, I'll insert the blah blah blah, liking different characters is fine, but honestly, I was exposed to Thor fandom long before I actually watched Thor, and I expected from the fandom for Loki to be totally mindblowingly awesome and Thor to be dull and boring. And then I watched it and wondered if I was seeing the same movie because while yeah, Loki was damn good, pretty much every single minute Thor was onscreen I was going either "lol omg you adorable jerkwad" or "oh bb how are you so perfect and lovable" and making grabby hands at the screen. I don't get how people think he's not worthy of in-depth fanfic and analysis :(

Thor is the most adorable person in the Avengers universe(he could have competition with Janet, I won't know until we get her. HINT HINT MARVEL.) and it really does sadden me whenever I see any amount of Thor hate, I just don't get how you could dislike someone who gets tasered and then smiles and laughs with the person who tasered him like nothing important happened at all. I know the more 'heroic' heroes can get the short end of the stick when it comes to fans but I honestly find Thor's ability to forgive endlessly fascinating and endearing, he's also the reason why I love Loki as much as I do. Sure if they didn't have anything to do with each other I'd still enjoy Loki as a stirring shit up character but his emotional link to Thor makes him so much more of an appealing angst bucket of dickery. Plus Thor has his own angst about Loki so it feeds me with an endless spiral of feelings... I was going somewhere with this, oh well.

Tl;dr I agree with you. COME HERE THOR AND LET ME HUG YOU.

I had the exact same reaction to the movie. I'd seen so much Loki stuff before hand, so I was all ready for him to blow me away, but I just enjoyed Thor SO much more. Loki's great, but Thor is just so genuine and earnest, even in the beginning when he was being a dick. He's like a giant puppy. Who smashes things. And don't even get me started on his sticking up for Loki in the Avengers and his commitment to his family and friends and how he wants to protect everyone and augh. SO MANY FEELINGS.

(And that's without even getting into my immense feelings on comics verse Thor.)

Wait... seriously? But he's Thor! I guess a lot of people just tend to write him off as kind of a dudebro but he's such a great character. Eternal sadface.

Don't worry Thor, I'll love you. *gathers pop tarts and coffee and huddles in the corner*
