I didn't even really start until I was thirty, if you don't count the irl-only mini-MacGyver fandom my best friend and I had (complete with fic writing and long discussions about villain motivations). I watched X-Files and hung out a little on the Usenet group, ditto for X-Men and things, but I didn't write a fic and put it up on the internet until 2005. It just...happened.

Same here. Same age group, too. I mean, I geeked around with my friends (mostly Trekkies and X-Philes) and hung out on a few yahoo groups (anyone remember those? :P), but it wasn't until 2009 that I really got to be active in fandom, and started being more extroverted about my fandom thoughts and activities, including writing fic and participating in kinkmemes and such. So yeah, there definitely isn't any kind of age limit on fandom. Neither on how old you can be to participate, nor on how old you can be to discover how much fun it is :).

I still belong to a couple of active Y!groups. They aren't as popular as they used to be, true, but they still exist.

*cuddles mah groups*
