That does not explain the number of lawyers and med students on my list. I ask them how the heck they have the time for fanfic, but their response is that they don't have time for other hobbies. Those require going somewhere, or doing a specific thing - fandom just requires the occasional scribbling when you have a moment or browsing sites on lunch break. So it's fandom or no life at all.
