Agree so hard.

... I'm the "Regina killed kids" anon from further up, and yep, Rumpel doesn't come close to that level of evil for me.

Some of the time, he's evil, and some of the time, he's just a total dick, but some of the time, I really do think what he does is just exacting "magic for a price", which seems to be an inherent law of FTL anyways, so yeah.

Incidentally, I'm the anon you replied to when you said that. Anyway, I definitely think "magic for a price" is more a set, karmic law than anything else. It's a transaction: you use magic, you have to give up something dear to you. If you don't willingly give it up, the universe will take it from you. Rumpelstiltskin has simply found a way to benefit himself while ensuring relatively satisfied customers.
