1What does Funimation being the ones to acquire the license mean all it's awesome gayness is gonna go poof? o.o

[identity profile] runic-binary.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Well, they're showing it on American television.

[identity profile] angelogdarknes.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, so it's not Funimation itself, but our sadly homophobic/idiotic-managed airwaves? Understandable u-u;;

Could've been worse though. I mean, what if 4Kids had got it?

[identity profile] runic-binary.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh god, don't even talk like that.

Imagine if they purged every episode with 'unappropriated' references! There'd go the Episode where they do their physical exam at school, when Hunny gets a toothache, when they have the Christmas Ball, everything that had to do with the twins, the episode where they go to the beach......

I think we'd pretty much be left with a blank screen =/

It's going to be on TV? I thought it had just been licensed.

[identity profile] angelogdarknes.livejournal.com 2007-08-13 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, this is the first I've heard of it being licensed, so Im still a bit confused >>;;

I doubt Ouran would be shown on American TV, to be honest. Except for maybe the Anime Network or whatever it's called. It's not action enough for Cartoon Network, it's too grown up for Disney, Nickolodeon, or Fox, it's too shoujo for G4.

I kinda hope it doesn't, that it's just gonna be a DVD thing, because that means they'll edit out a lot less, and stay closer to the original.

Who knows, they might just dub and not change things, period. One can hope...

Funi has actually been getting a lot better with their dubs. Admittedly, I don't hate Vic Mignona or whatever as much as most of the fandom, but I actually thought Full Metal Alchemist was a spectacular dub. Additionally, I prefer watching Fruits Basket's dub to the sub -- the only voice in it I can't stand is Ritsu's. I don't watch Trinity Blood, but I've heard that its dub is also fantastic.

I actually have no problems with their dubs, from what I've seen, which is why I was confused about the original comment. I never watched the Fruits Basket's sub, but I enjoyed the dub greatly, especially Kyo's voice, and Fullmetal Alchemist couldn't have been done any better. Trinity Blood, I actually do prefer the sub to the dub, but it wasn't all that bad. I just like Father Abel's voice better in Japanese.

I'm curious to see what they'll do with Ouran.
