Big Ranting Post

Re:21 in general: Ugh. Censorship=bad, but sometimes it is either censorship or no manga. Personally, I'll choose the manga. So they changed one thing. Did it really change the meaning? Greed still looks crucified. Why did they change it? Because they would lose business if they didn't. Yes, I know, they lost some business because they did, but seriously, it seemed like the people making the biggest complaints don't pay for their manga anyway.

Sorry guys, manga is changed when it comes to the states. Some changes suck, but you have to deal with it. You know, a lot of the art is changed slightly. Some companies redo sound effects and have to redraw bits of backgrounds and characters to make pages look alright.

So yes. That change sucked. Changes suck. But in order to bring manga over to the states, we have to deal with it. Censorship happens. What will not buying the manga do? You're not helping Arakawa at all. In fact, it's almost a slap in the face to her. Oh, one panel of one volume of a totally kickass series was changed, so I will stop giving money back to the creator. What is up with that?

I do purchase my manga. I tend to do both now, but at the time I only store-bought my graphic novels. A friend of mine found it by accident one day looking things up.

I'm really not all that pissed about it, it was just the most convenient wording . . . . and seriously made me WTF when I realized it.

"Some changes suck, but you have to deal with it."

No, no I don't have to.

"What will not buying the manga do? You're not helping Arakawa at all."

I refuse to support a company that edits manga so they can make more money. But then, I have the luxury of buying the Japanese originals while reading the English translations for free online, so I am still able to support my favourite authors, without paying anything to the American publishing companies. Yay! :)

*phew*
Well, I am reaaaaalllly glad that some people are not just going back to the scans and instead are actually buying the Japanese volumes. ♥

I think my main point is that hundreds of small, necessary changes (often changed to help understanding) get made and no one pays any attention to them, but then one that is a bit more obvious gets changed and half the fandom throws a hissfity. It bugs me that because people notice ONE panel on ONE page in ONE volume turns people away from an entire company.

Sorry, businesses need money to stay alive. They need money to bring more manga to the states. I don't like the change, but I understand why it was made, so I can accept it.
