you can't possibly be so deep in your SJ puddle to compare being gay to be a threat to your life and those of people around you JUST BECAUSE YOU EXIST.

And how many are really a threat?

If you idiots still can't see the parallels there's no point trying to explain them to you.

A whole lot? Have you ever read X-men? How many of them have accidentally hurt people?

Problem: The X-men writers have, time and again, compared being a mutant with being gay.

Including cringe worthy scenes as Profesor Xavier comparing being mutant to being gay seconds before getting shot as the crowd booed him, Moria McTaggert comparing the Legacy Virus to AIDS (Because AIDS TOTALLY only affects gay people) and Iceman being asked by his parents 'Have you tried not being a mutant?'

I agree, the metaphore doesn't work, BECAUSE many, many mutants have accidentally hurt or killed people, but you can't blame readers from comparing the two if the source material does it constantly.

This also has the effect of making all caution about mutants into OMG BIGOTRY!!11 I'm not saying there isn't a lot of very effective and well-thought-out anti-mutant discrimination depicted in the X-comics, but it is NOT like being gay or a minority. It is like being a mutant: a human being who has superpowers that make them far more powerful than most human beings but who still has the same rights and liberties and feelings and desires as all normal people. And that's what makes them so fascinating, and often, so tragic. Not "mutant=gay".

Well, the problem I have with a lot of the anti-mutie ideas is that there's little taking account of whether the person would choose to use their powers against other people. There are certainly people who can't control their powers and they are a problem (I distinctly remember reading about a kid who woke up one day expelling toxic vapors that liquified his whole town; Wolverine was sent in to kill him), but the taking of personal responsibility from others. The preventative measures pisses me off.

I totally agree, and this should be obvious, but noooooo, apparently readers won't care about fictional characters's scifi issues unless we're bashed over the head with "this is exactly like being gay!" so we can equate it to specific real-life issues.

um, you seem to also be missing the point that your dumb ass argument could be that it's not a good parallel? i could maybe have gone with trans* or intersex as your parallel, but you know what? some of those people want to be "normal" . i don't want to not be queer, but i'm trans* and i damn well want to be cis. even in an ideal world without people in it. with some of those mutations i think even in a world without people around to be judgemental some would like a cure. and some wouldn't. just by my experience of being trans* and having a 'mutated body', i would say it's pretty damned certain that these mutants would be going through something pretty similar in terms of the reality of what their body is like compared to what their brain's internal map of their body is like.

IF YOU WANT TO BE SPECIFIC ABOUT THIS ISSUE
