(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 02:32 am (UTC)(link)Some places have "close-in-age" exceptions to the laws. I think those forms of the law are quite sane and serve a purpose: protect kids from predation by adults while avoiding criminalizing consensual sex between teenagers. Repealing all statutory rape laws scares the bejeebus out of me but making it a crime for to kids the same age to have consensual sex is completely useless.
(I live in a state where it is a FELONY to have sex with anyone under 16 with no exceptions, which presumably means two 16 year-olds can have sex with each and both be convicted of felonies. Fortunately, I moved here when I was 27 so I didn't have to worry about that.)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)Actually, California does have a close-in-age exception, but it only reduces the crime from a felony to a misdemeanor.
