in some places (*coughTUMBLRcough*), fandom social justice is starting to look more and more like 1984.

That and McCarthyism. J'accuse.

It's like... reverse Rush Limbaugh or something.
That's exactly how I word it every time. The end goal is supposedly "equality and understanding"? I keep asking how we're going to get there with the tactic "agree with me that you're a bad person". I mean, half the time when some radical is raising awareness, it's in the form of "you have X-privilege and you need to recognize that". After that, what do they want? I have my hearing, for example. I'm very grateful that I do. I know some people don't, and that they need accommodations, and they should have them. What do you want after that? The answer seems to be "I just want you to feel bad for having what you have".

I don't think the radical internet activists know what they want or how to get it, or even how to make a real positive difference. I think they know it, and that's why they dogpile people for innocent mistakes when simply pointing out an error and then forgiving works nine out of ten times. Most of all, they don't seem to realize that people arguing back is usually because the person does feel bad about the mistake and is trying to say "I'm not a bad person".
