Oh definitely agree about the lead-up. The problem, though, is that it IS different after the team-up as opposed to before -- it's harder in a movie than it is in the comics, and the comics already need a bit of handwaving or complicated, timewasting explanations for things like "um, so, why doesn't Reed Richards just sell all these fantastic inventions to the public so this shit doesn't happen anymore?" and "couldn't she just ask her 20 other friends for help with problem X?" (this is where secret identities really come in handy in the comics, imo ;))

Like, if they make a Hulk movie, it'll be hard to get the right amount of angst and isolation and dread and helplessness and self-reliance needed to make an effective movie now that Bruce is pals with a mega-powerful billionaire corporate giant who can give him every single resource he needs, and on good terms with the director of a shadowy government agency who can mow down anyone who tries to mess with him.

And on a more personal level....look, Tony's my favorite character in the MCU, but his arc in The Avengers had a bit of a "pack your bags and go home everyone, the awesomeness just blew the roof off and fried your instruments" vibe of finality and satisfying-ness that puts a strain on my expectations for future solo Iron Man movies. It was a bit too good, not to mention heavily, heavily geared towards teamwork. I'd be more than happy to just have him cameo here and there throughout the sequels until the next Avengers movie, tbh. Or at least have him introduce Hank and Jan new superheroes instead of just having to do his own thing.
