I just learned about Sophia. I swear they made her "latina" as an afterthought.

Yeah, or they thought they could get away with it.

It's like they went:

"Oh hey, now that we have this character let's throw minorities a bone and make her Latina! We can make her say a few words that aren't English every so often! That will be enough right? It's not like they have their own distinct characteristics and culture right? The audience will love us for being so inclusive."

And then there was the backlash.

"It's fantasy you guys. She's not really Latina!"
