Arghh I hate love triangles so much. I see no reason why they are so common in fiction other than to extend the story by two or so pages. There are SOME cases where they both add to the plot AND are well written, but I honestly can't think of one right now.

But I agree with you, Peeta did was pretty important, even in a non-romantic capacity, at least in the third book. His character arc facilitated Katniss's character development.

Still didn't like him though. XD

Right? I think they sell because of the basic plot function they serve (you can't have things going smoothly for your Destined Couple) and because of the fantasy of having two people fight over you. But God, they're so annoying. It's boring, old, overdone, and it makes the contested character look like a wishy-washy idiot.
