Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

Scott's the guy in the secret below about the "crazy jawline". He's not disabled. I have absolutely no idea where the potato thing came from or what it refers to. Scott's not stupid, but a lot of fans in S1 got really frustrated with him because of his obsession with his girlfriend and his complete lack of perspective. The show itself even poked fun at this ("His password is also Allison?" "Sure you still want him in your pack?") Everything with Scott in the first season pretty much revolved around his feelings about Allison, and that turned off a lot of fans, especially when people are dying, people are being tortured, and Scott's all AllisonAllisonAllison.

That's the main reason I never warmed to Scott and to this day, while I like him more, I still have issues with him. His single-mindedness and lack of perspective tended to annoy me. His focus on Allison was limiting to his development as a character and made him less appealing to me.

I think this is the first legit criticism of his character development I have read.

That being said he is a 16 year old boy who is horny and just found true love for the first time. His character development, while not ideal, rings true to me.

It rings true to me, too, but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy it or that it absolves the character of his flaws or that I shouldn't be able to criticize it. To me, realistic doesn't necessarily equal good or interesting or likeable.

Yeah, sorry if it sounded like I was being judge-y! I totally get where you are coming from. Scott at times can be a bit much.

I completely understand why you find this character trait annoying - tbh it usually annoys the crap out of me too. Like the Stiles/Lydia creeping into obsession thing - it may be realistic at times, but its not something I want to watch.

No, not at all! I'm agreeing with a lot of what you're saying.

Re: Stiles/Lydia, Stiles is my favourite character but I can recognize that his focus on her does him no favours and shows signs of immaturity and that he needs to grow up and learn to see her as a person. Again, realistic but that doesn't mean I handwave it or excuse it. I can see it for the character flaw it is. It's an interesting parallel to Scott, now that I think of it, although the dynamics are obviously different. In general, I just think they've done a better job of fleshing out Stiles's characterization beyond his Lydia infatuation compared to Scott's fixation on Allison and perhaps some people have responded accordingly.

Yeah. Agreed.

The best thing about the third season is Davis saying Stiles is moving away from Lydia and becoming just friends. That creepy,' I have been in love with her since I was give and she didn't know I was alive until now' - is a fucking shitty trope.

you should read the On Fire book and see how Derek acts towards Kate. it's very similar, and it's alluded that this is in part due to the werewolf side of them. the desire to latch onto one person and focus on them. Derek dreams of marrying Kate and having her be a werewolf and all these strange day dreams lol.

is On Fire even considered canon? All I've heard about it is that it's a horrible read.

Davis had a hand in the story, so unless he says otherwise or the show actively changes something put into the book i consider it canon.
