Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

Oh most definitely. The teenaged Sterek fans on tumblr will burn shit or something. (And possibly some of the adults). 90% of Sterek fandom makes me feel embarrassed on a daily basis.

Especially since Sterek is not a gay rights thing. Yes. We need more lgtbq characters on television portrayed in a positive light. But I'm all for making it other characters and leaving Sterek to live on in fanfiction.

No problem! I know there are a lot of people who feel the same way we do, they are just hard to find sometimes!

I really do love talking about Teen Wolf fandom and it's positive and negative traits with rational people. It's ridiculously interesting to watch from afar, which is where I am most comfortable.

How is making so lgbt pairing canon a gay rights issue but not Sterek? Kinda curious at you logic.

Hm. I hope this makes sense. I think it is a complicated issue and I may have worded my last response wrong.

I do not think that if Sterek does not become canon it would be MTV or producers or Davis working against gay rights. But that is often how it is protrayed in tumblr fandom. What you don't ship Sterek - you hate gay people. You don't think they are true loves and Teen Wolf has been secretly trying to tell us that - you are a horrible person.

Not this is not everyone in the fandom. At. All. But some I have seen the crazy part of the fandom get upset about other lgtbq characters being introduced or getting love interests and the fandom flipping their shits. There is, to me and others, a big difference between creating lgtbq characters and making them well-rounded people with love interests as opposed to just caving to fandom.

Especially since at this moment, I think if Sterek would become canon it wouldn't be because Teen Wolf is supporting gay relationships, but instead trying to shore up more support from an emotionally invested fandom.

And I find that much of that fandom is not exactly about supporting same sex couples, but instead are very interested in watching two insanely attractive men (and two of the fan favorites) make out. Which, I should say, I have no problem with in the general idea of life. I read Sterek fanfiction for part of that reason. But I would argue that men who watch girl on girl porn aren't watching it because they want marriage equality for all or are looking to show support for lesbian relationships. People who want to watch two hot men kiss and flirt are not always in it because they support them running away to Vermont and adopting babies from China. (I do happen to support gay rights. Completely. But it's not the driving reason why I read slash fanfiction)

Also, Sterek at this moment. Would be a horrible couple. They don't like each other. They barely stand each other. They are on an uneasy truce because of deadly circumstances.

So. I hope that makes sense. I just don't think that making Sterek canon itself is a gay rights issue, but part of a larger issue in which relationship equality should be figured in. Just because Sterek doesn't mean that Teen Wolf is against gay people. And just because Sterek does happen does it mean I think MTV is supportive of the 'gay agenda'
