For real? People have been writing fic and drawing art of young teenagers forever. I mean, for god's sake, look at early Harry Potter fandom! Or South Park. Or any of a hundred others.

Can people stop being so *OMG SHOCKED* that this stuff exists?

Also, OP, if anything even slightly shippy freaks you out, how do you feel about all the television shows and movies and books with 13~ish kids *falling in love* and even having sex, in some more mature works? It's not like all young teens are pure and virginal, you know. And it's not like the source material is refusing to touch on the matter only for fanworks to ruin everything by adding all that gross feeling nonsense.

Maybe OP has never been involved in a fandom with younger characters. I think their feelings are totally okay.

I just think it's a little silly to get worked up about fanstuffs depicting things that actually happen in the original. (Since they said even just shippy stuff bothers them)

I understand being BOTHERED by more mature things, but I still think it's a little naive for someone who has been in fandom long enough to be familiar with fandomsecrets to be surprised that they exist, which is the feeling I got from the secret.

It sounds like they're not familiar with the canon, though. I know the homestuck characters aren't exactly innocent, but I can see how somebody would hear "It's a story about four kids" and assume that it was a kid's story.

Also we have no idea how long they've been in fandom. I could easily link this comm to someone right now, and it would be their first fandom experience. It's not like F!S is a rare gem, and not everybody spends so much time on the internet that they're completely jaded to this.

I get what you're saying but I think you're being just a little condescending. We have no idea what other people's experiences have been.

Shit, I'm sorry, I didn't intend to be condescending. I just get so sick of hearing the same things over and over. YES people write/draw porn about underage characters, YES it freaks some people out, and it almost invariably causes massive wank whenever it gets mentioned.

So when I see a secret like this, all I can think is oh god, not THIS again. :/ As a result, I got a little mean, and it wasn't even aimed at the OP, just....fans in general, I guess.

It has always existed, but there have also always been people who've felt uncomfortable about it or don't like it. That's okay, too. It's not like OP is being an asshole to their GF about it, hence the secret.

I feel like it's one thing to read a work that has teenagers falling in love and even having sex, but another to seek out graphic depictions of said sex, especially if you are an adult. Then it's creepy.

Yeah, but if the whole show is about the character at X age, writing a fanart and saying "BTW, s/he's totally older in this" doesn't change how a person has always seen the character. There's still the "why did you want to draw a dirty pic of that underage character in the first place?"

It's easy to forget that they're really 15 or whatever years old when you're reading them. They often act older than that. Besides, I feel it's really judgmental to imply that you aren't allowed to have fantasies of younger characters. There's a lot more of a disconnect there and it isn't anywhere near what it would be like to fantasize about a real person who is younger than you (and even that isn't anywhere near what it would be like to act on those fantasies).

I just don't see why it's a big deal =/ Myself, I'm not really here for the pr0nz, but the characters *are* sexually mature (even if they're not mentally/emotionally mature but honestly? they're more mature than some adults irl) and it's not like writing porn about an 8yo, so if people want to do it it doesn't really bother me.

The creep-level there is completely subjective as long as no actual children are being hurt. To some, it's creepy. To others, it's downright criminal. To someone else, it's their kink. Or, like me, they only recently stopped being a teenager, so often the teenagers in the fic are still in the same maturity-range as the reader/writer. OR, further yet, it's entirely possible for the age of the characters not to matter that much once they have reached the age that modern media would start talking about how "sexy" they are. Which these days, is about 13.

Once a character is old enough that television will put them in a bikini and call them sexy, they are old enough that I don't feel especially creepy reading fic about them.

Teenagers? As in 17+ when they are verging on being at least close to physically mature and are the age of consent in some states, including mine? No, it doesn't hugely bother me, although I generally don't consume media starring teens.

Age 13 freaks me out. In my mind, 13 is a child. Nowhere NEAR the age at which it is appropriate to view someone as a sexual person. And we're also talking about some pretty explicit porn, which makes everything else to do with shipping seem...off. I guess for me the gap is getting from "this is about 13 year-old children" -- even children who play at dating -- to "imma draw naked (older) versions of that." I just don't get it. But, then, I've never been in a fandom with underage characters. Maybe it's super common and I'm a giant prude.
