Yes, Dolly does 'ask' her deceased husband for a sign - but she asks so she's sure it's the 'right thing to do', not because she says she loves Horace. She also stats that it won't be like her marriage to her first husband, which was a love match. Iirc, it's mostly the same for him. He's not looking for love - he's looking for a 'good woman', and he realizes that's what she is, more than he falls in love with her. The 'Love Is Only Love' song, and him admitting he'd be bored without her always came across as either forced or more or less admitting it wasn't 'love' - at least in the romantic sense. But that was just my opinion so ymmv. -shrugs-
tl;dr: Their happy ending is more that they found the type of marriage they want [which was the more traditional one for their time] than it was they found someone they loved.
