(Anonymous) 2012-10-27 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)Everyone always jumps to the same conclusions in this series; that the Amestrian military maps on to any other military 100%, which is of course impossible. (I mean, look at all the women who had powerful roles in the military in an expy '20s setting.) The fraternization laws are probably going to be different too*.
*I tend not to take Word of God stuff as CANON canon, mostly because I don't play in the manga/brotherhood storyline at all.

And, um, women did serve in military in the 20's and not just in auxiliary roles. Russia had a women's battalion formed in 1917. And they had female aviators as early as 1914 IIRC.
