And this is a bad thing why?

"Oh, kids will be kids" has been trivializing bullying for ages. Now people are finally waking up to the reality of what real bullying can do to kids. It's awful that it was a rash of suicides that brought this to national attention, but it's a start. Now people won't dismiss real problems so easily.

There's a difference between a problem getting attention and it being a hysteria. If it's getting attention, then the response is generally more rational, well thought out. With hysteria? Not so much. The atmosphere hysteria creates makes it easy for kids to lie and say a kid they didn't like bullied them just to 'get back' at the kid/pick on the other child *because* they don't like them and/or for something completely unrelated to bullying.

So yes, something being a hysteria can be a bad thing [and hell, in this case, could easily turn into a different form of bullying.]

Also, people will continue to dismiss real problems even though they pay attention to *one* that they'd been ignoring.
