I haven't read any fics where he went to college, but I have read fics where he wishes he did, resents that he didn't get the chance to, or something along those lines. It seems out of character and unnecessary to me. Daryl Dixon is smart and realizes his strengths, but I haven't seen anything in the show that points to one of his strengths being books.

OP here- that's exactly what I mean. I can see him growing up and wanting more for himself and his life, but I personally can't see him fixating on COLLEGE of all things. Just... Why? Just because the author is preoccupied with having the almighty college degree doesn't mean it's IC for Daryl to want that too.

Fandom will be fandom. People pushing what they want onto the character despite how OOC it might be. As infuriating it is, it happens everywhere.

Wait, college?! People think that? Yeah, that doesn't fit at all. And hasn't Norman himself said that he doesn't want Carol/Daryl to be a thing because he thinks Daryl's sort of incompetent about sex/romance and he'd rather work on friendships and stuff? Psh.

I don't read TWD fic but yeah, that's stupid. He's an awesome character without making him Joe anybody. So he didn't go to college - so what? He has skills and smarts and common sense, something the rest of the group could use.

I don't hang out in the Walking Dead fandom (because I love the show and don't want it ruined by fan whining which, let's be honest, that's what most fandoms eventually devolve into). Is this a common thing in that fandom; saying that Daryl went to college? I agree with you that it seems out of character.
