Should it? I'm not sure which one is the more obvious choice. The one of the left is prettier, has cuter clothes, and has a busload of power and a wicked sense of humor. The only downside is the voice, which a simple gag would do wonders for. The one on the right has a sexy voice, but he's also a bit passionless.

I find Mr. Gold fascinating in that he shows just how much Rumpelstiltskin has changed in his lifetime. He's manipulative and scheming, which I normally hate, but in a way that is difficult to follow. Rumpelstiltskin is a necessary evil, but Mr. Gold is much more insidious. You can't really tell what his plans are or his desires until Emma breaks the curse and even then it's confusing.

It's a hard choice, honestly. The skin and the voice don't bother me because I actually find Rumpelstiltskin more appealing there, but Mr. Gold is very, very interesting.

Though you know who's really hot and equally fucked up? Jefferson. I love me some Jefferson. Him and Hook rock the guyliner.

and i agree with mr. gold being rather more interesting purely because with rumple it's almost like you're guaranteed the evil but gold plays a more careful, calculated game. also, rob carlyle looks good in a suit, so >_>

I would be disappointed if the Mad Hatter weren't anything "in the weirdest way". I loved his involvement in the latest episode, though it was rather creepy at the beginning.

I love how creepy he is and how mad he already seems even before Regina traps him in Wonderland. And he's got this kinda filthy rumpled look to him too. *drools*

I want to see Rumpelstiltskin's hair on Mr. Gold. Frankly, I think Carlyle can pull off messy, wavy hair well.

What I find so fascinating about Rumpelstiltskin is unlike the rest of Storybrooke, with the exception of Jefferson and Regina, he knew exactly who he was. Regina and Jefferson's personality did not change going from the magical realm to Maine. But Rumpelstiltskin's did. Yes, he is still a manipulator but he is not campy and over the top. Gold is very reserved. I just want to know why?

I'm guessing because he was in it for the long haul. He had a long term game plan, and he couldn't exactly go around like his old self when no one else had memories. Without magic, they'd just have locked him up in the looney bin for prancing around and cackling.

Writers claimed at one point he didn't remember who he was until Emma came to town and said her name. I don't really think that actually makes sense, but it explains the character choice from a Doyalist POV.

But Jefferson did change. It was just hard to nail down his personality from his few episodes. Watch The Doctor: The Mad Hatter's personality there is completely different from Jefferson's in Storybrooke. He's still not all there, but in a very different way.

My best guess has to do with how time plays out in Storybrooke, which is something that's been bothering me. Clearly, as shown by Hansel, Gretel, Grace, and Ella's child, children do not age. Henry does, but he never mentions finding it weird that he's getting older but no one else is. There has to be some loss of the conception of time.

Well, what if it's a time loop? What if people are just repeating their lives over and over again but Henry hasn't noticed because Regina has been aware enough and changing enough for him to brush the oddities away? This would mean that Mr. Gold is stuck in a world where only one person (Henry) actually changes. How quickly would you learn everything about everybody and get tired of watching them live their lives in a perpetual loop? He's been there for 28 years watching them. Before Henry, it was just him and Regina, and an increasingly obsessive Jefferson. Regina's in her own paradise, watching the suffering of people. Jefferson is in his mansion, tearing himself apart. Mr. Gold has no leads on Belle's whereabouts, and he has no one to bargain with because everyone is doing the same thing they've always done. There's no excitement in his world. There's just searching and waiting, and plotting.

Under those circumstances, I'm pretty sure anyone would change.
